Gyeongju at Night: Seeing Wolji Pond Lit Up on a Day Trip

Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond is open until 10 PM. Which day tours from Busan end there in the evening, which leave before, what it costs, and what reviewers found.

Updated November 2026

Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond is open until 10:00 PM, with tickets sold until 9:30 PM, and an adult ticket costs 3,000 won (Gyeongju city, checked November 2026). Some day trips from Busan head back before the evening; a few save the pond for last. The one built around it is TOURSTORY Korea’s From Busan: Echoes of Silla Gyeongju Historical Day Tour, from US$64 a person (checked November 2026): a long day, 11.5 to 13.5 hours, that ends at the pond and Woljeong Bridge, with Seokguram on the way.

All its admission fees, Donggung and Wolji included, are in the price; meals are not. Free cancellation until 24 hours before. 20 January 2027 was not on sale when we looked; the calendar shows the dates that are.

The evening is in the plan on TOURSTORY Korea’s two days and on Lecirt’s Japanese-language day; their highlights speak of the pond’s evening views and the bridge lit up. On LOVE KOREA’s day the coach is back at Busan Subway Station at 7:20 PM, so its Gyeongju day ends well before the pond closes.

What reviewers found

One reviewer of LOVE KOREA’s day (October 2026) wrote that the stops should have been ordered to finish at the palace as it lit up. On TOURSTORY Korea’s three-package day, one reviewer (11 October 2026) had expected to see the lit pond from the description and did not go there. So if the pond after dark is the reason for your trip, pick the day whose itinerary ends there, and ask the guide on the morning when the pond comes in the day.

Staying for the evening on your own

Map of Gyeongju: the town centre with Daereungwon, Cheomseongdae and Wolji, Bulguksa 18.3 km by road to the south-east with Seokguram above it, and Gyeongju Station (KTX) to the west
Wolji, the palace pond, is in the town centre with Daereungwon and Cheomseongdae; Bulguksa is 18.3 km away by road to the south-east.

If you sleep in Gyeongju, the pond is an easy evening walk from the centre: from Daereungwon to Cheomseongdae is 0.9 km on foot, and on to Donggung and Wolji another 1.1 km. KOREA DISCOVERY TOUR's small group can drop you at a hotel in Gyeongju instead of Busan, which leaves the evening free.
